SCB In the “Land of Lincoln”

August 12th, 2008

Saxtons’s Cornet Band visits the “Land Of Lincoln” and performs a joint concert with the Millikin University Symphonic Band under the direction of Professor Gary Shaw on Sunday, October 5 at 2:00 p.m. CST at the Kirkland Fine Arts Center in Decatur, Illinois.

The concert will feature SCB tubist Kelly Diamond performing Andrea Catozzi’s Beelzebub with the Millikin Symphonic Band as well as Professor Nicky Hughes as narrator on Aaron Copland’s Lincoln Portrait. SCB will also perform a couple of combined numbers with the Millikin Band to finish the concert. In order to accomodate the combined numbers, Saxton’s Cornet Band ala 1864 will leave the stage only to return as the same organization 40 years later playing more modern instruments. The need for this arises out of the Civil War era instruments not being able to play in tune with the modern instrumetns of the Millikin University Band.
